Reggie and his wife, Pam, have lived near Waxahachie, Texas for 30 years and they’ve been Farm Credit borrowers nearly as long. The relationship spans three decades and has included multiple deals. In 2020, Reggie was elected to fill a seat on AgTexas’ Board of Directors. Today, he is serving AgTexas as the newly elected chairman of the board.
Reggie and Pam own and operate a diversified farming, ranching, agronomy services and agriculture entrepreneurship business. They’ve raised everything from kids to corn, calves to wheat, and foals to hay. These days, Reggie is enjoying retirement following a successful career in crop protection and fertilizer services. He fills his calendar with the most important things in life: service to organizations he believes in and chasing grandkids.
In addition to serving on the AgTexas board, Reggie is a past president of the American Fellowship of Cowboy Churches and the Tarleton Rodeo Alumni. Reggie bleeds purple as a proud graduate of Tarleton State University and enjoys being a member of the Foundation Board. He is also an active member of the Ellis County Cowboy Church.
All three of Reggie and Pam’s adult children, Candice, Riley, and Rachel, have planted roots and live in Ellis County with their spouses and children. In fact, Rachel and her husband, Austin, built a barndominium near Reggie and Pam’s house. They are raising their boys, Abbott and Axel, on the same piece of Texas that Rachel grew up on. Candice and her husband, Casey, have two boys, Case and Colton. Together they raise and show market lambs as 4C Club Lambs. Riley and his wife, Caty, have three daughters: Cheyan, Aubrey, and Harper. This branch of the Underwood tree is competitive in the market hog stock show arena.
“AgTexas understands agriculture. That’s the kind of folks you want do to business with. They have a commitment to serve agriculture and the communities they’re located in. AgTexas will be there in good times and in tough ones. As a producer, I appreciate that AgTexas’ purpose is my success.” ~ Reggie
AgTexas Relationship Manger, Lee Statham, says it best when it comes to partnering with the Underwoods, “It has been my privilege to work alongside Mr. Underwood for well over 10 years. We’re fortunate to have a board chairman with such a diverse agricultural and business background. I’m certain that AgTexas will be a better association because of Reggie, and I look forward to many years of working with him and the Underwood family.”
AgTexas is proud of this relationship and excited to see what’s in store for the next generation of RU Happy.
ARK Country Store is a feed and livestock supply store in Waxahachie and a major component of the Underwood operation. Reggie and his daughter, Candice, purchased a small feed store 17 years ago. Since then, they’ve moved locations, shifted the entire business approach to better align with the target market, and grown it into the successful business it is today. They attribute their success to identifying their niche market of FFA and 4-H stock show consumers, and serving that market well. They continue to capitalize on new opportunities by applying a “what’s next” mentality. As an example, they became a Purina Preferred Distributor for Amazon which helped to keep staff employed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, they have become dealers of high-demand product lines including Yeti, Green Egg, and Hey Dudes.
Reggie partners with Austin on the ACS Agronomy Services and ranching divisions of the operation. They raise wheat, hay, and corn, and offer custom farming and fertilizing, consulting, and precision planting services. Additionally, ACS Agronomy Services is a Pioneer seed dealer and manages many test plots for the seed company. Waxahachie Creek Ranch is the ranching segment of the operation. The Underwoods run stocker calves and maintain a commercial cow-calf herd. Austin helps manage the cattle when Reggie must travel to fulfill service commitments. Knowing things are taken care of at home allows Reggie to rest easy when he’s away.
