Reliable Credit for American Agriculture

AgTexas is a part of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide network of borrower-owned financial institutions. These institutions provide over $199 billion in credit and financially related services to more than a half million borrowers. The System provides credit and services to farmers, ranchers, producers and harvesters of aquatic products, rural homeowners, certain farm-related businesses, agricultural and aquatic cooperatives, rural utilities, and to certain foreign or domestic entities in connection with international agricultural credit transactions.

The Farm Credit institutions are organized as cooperative businesses, each owned by its borrowers. As stockholders, the borrowers have the right to participate in director elections and other matters affecting operations of the organization. The institution’s board of directors consists of borrowers and at least one outside director, appointed by the board itself. As a cooperative, the lending institution also has the ability to return profits to its stockholders through a patronage program.

The Farm Credit mission is to provide a reliable source of credit for American agriculture by making loans to qualified borrowers at competitive rates and providing insurance and related services.
